138 / To Leak or not to Leak

Methinks this is the biggest thing on the internet, ever. Julian Assange - of WikiLeaks - is called 'the most evil person on the globe', by some. He himself claims "to underpin true democracy and good governance on which all mankind's dreams depend."

Could there possibly be more discrepancy?

I think we have to choose for ourselves. WikiLeaks calls their process of leaking highly sensitive documents (we're talking about stuff that can jeopardise the legitimacy of the Allied Afghan war effort) the 'democratisation' of leaking. The result of these leaks is that the world-wide media are scrutinising documents like never before - and publishing information that normally would not be available to people like you and me.

Is that good? Depends on where you stand.

Myself - I'm anti Afghan war; coming to think of it, I'm anti war - and I want to know what's going on. But from the Pentagon (not unexpectedly), this: "Mr Assange can say whatever he likes about the greater good he's doing, but they might already have blood on their hands …" the blood of some of their local sources in Afghanistan.

I don't think the internet gets any bigger than this. (I've WikiLeaked before)
