144 / I am sick and tired of the boat-people hysteria
Australia has an intake of 150,000 immigrants, per year. How many of them are 'boat people'? A few hundred, in fact on average, less than a thousand per year since 1978.
Yet, the 'problem' of boat people is a huge issue in Australian politics and I'm sick and tired of it. SMH today. By the way, the above figures translate to little more than one 'boat' person every two days since the end of the Vietnam War.
