197 / Meditation? What for?!
Do you meditate? No? You should.
The topic of meditation is one of my
favourites, I write a lot about it. I had lapsed for a while there, stopped my
daily routine, but then I started again this week and lo-and-behold, on that
very day an article in the newspaper confirmed once again
what I am convinced of anyway: Meditation is good for us.
But we're not talking of any old
meditation here. Not the 'mindfulness' meditation, where you concentrate your
mind on certain thoughts, certain concepts. We are talking of true meditation,
where the goal is to clear your mind, to empty it of thoughts altogether.
Difficult, that. But this is my favourite answer to the question: "What is
meditation?"
"When a thought has ceased and
before the next thought has arisen, isn't there a gap? Prolong it.
That is meditation." Good luck.
