24 / Jimi Hendrix was murdered?

Of all the trivia in the newspaper today, this is the most shocking: Jimi Hendrix was murdered!

The greatest guitarist of our time fell victim to his greedy manager, says his road manager James Wright, in his book Rock Roadie. By and large it is thought Jimi died choking on his own vomit after he overdid it on drugs - bad enough, too. But the then registrar of the hospital in London - John Bannister, an Australian - where they tried to revive Jimi, is on record for saying that he "was drowned in copious amounts of red wine; his hair, his clothes, his lungs, his stomach were full of it - you couldn't think of mouth-to-mouth, there was so much wine coming out of him."

Apparently his manager, Mike Jeffery (who died in 1973, three years after Jimi) had sent a gang to force sleeping pills and wine down his throat to kill him. He feared Jimi was about to fire him; he was in much debt and had taken out a $2m life insurance policy on Hendrix.

What an appalling story. How utterly horrifying. My God, murdered - not Jimi Hendrix!
