195 / I'm sick of it: Having to watch quality movies in awful cinemas
That's right, I see a lot of movies, I often go to Dendy Opera Quays & sometimes to Newtown. The O.Q. cinemas are excellent, the Newtown cinemas are below average.
No, let me re-phrase that: They are the worst cinemas in town. Specifically I am talking about the projection quality in Newtown Cinema 1 - it is about 2 to 3 f-stops too dark. The image quality is atrocious. It's like watching a movie through a neutral density filter. I talked about this to the Newtown duty manager a couple of times, and I still get sucked in to seeing a movie there, hoping the problem is resolved. But alas, no relief! They call themselves 'The Home of Quality Cinema'. Quality movies, yes; quality cinema? It's a joke. I wonder if their management ever actually watched a movie in Cinema 1 at Newtown. They may care about the movies they show, but they don't seem concerned with how they show them. O.k., so do I worry about image quality too much? Hmmm
