105 / A hell of a time at the movies

We saw a movie yesterday that re-defined suspense for me: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (stupid title, the original title - it's a Swedish film - translates to 'Men who hate Women' and is a lot more apt.) Oh boy, this movie takes you to hell and back - without coming near a war zone, just by dealing with human foibles.

And it truly is not only the most suspenseful film for a while, but it is so well crafted, the story so well developed that the viewer is totally drawn into the mystery. It's a very complex story, unravelling the circumstances around a disappearance 40 years ago. But at no time does one lose the threads that knit the plot. And it is a stunning story.

At first look the movie is a suspenseful thriller, but it turns out to be a film about a young woman, the damage that has been visited upon her and her multi-layered revenge on the 'men who hate women.' An incredible story, the character of the girl played with blistering, unrelenting intensity, very well filmed, directed, edited … truly a near perfect thriller, not to be missed. But be warned … the film is not for the squeamish; not at all.
