There was a discussion in the newspaper about whether children who don’t want to participate in scripture class should twiddle their thumbs for an hour or rather have access to ethics classes. Some people would have it that ethics classes are dangerous and … "don't have the support of the religious community …"
… how odd that - a bit like butcher shops not having the support of vegetarians.
Scripture classes in schools are an instrument to ingrain irrationality and ignorance in children too young to defend themselves. There is a name for the process: Brainwashing. Pedophiles groom innocent children for their evil pursuits - churches' scripture classes groom innocent children for their irrational and ignorant world view, where religious belief in revelation and scripture is the primary source of wisdom.
Ethics classes as an alternative are desperately needed, in fact they should replace scripture classes in public schools - and don't ask religious leaders their opinion.
