11 / Human Rights anyone?

Yesterday was National Human Rights Consultation day in Sydney. An excellent discussion by all and sundry on why, how and when Human Rights shall be defined, implemented and improved.

A woman got up and stated she was a Christian; she then proceeded with a lengthy outpouring on the right for life (anti-abortion), the right for expression (right to proselytise), right for humanity/the family to be protected from aberrational behaviour (right to be intolerant) and other religiously tainted rights she claimed were God-given and in the interest of the community.

I raised my hand and in response asserted my wish for Human Rights to include protection from the impact of irrational religious dogmas, particularly in areas of … availability of birth control, choice of sexual preferences and access to the benefits of stem cell research.
